ASCII Insight: MSPs Share Their Thoughts On How COVID Changed Hiring
In our ongoing quest to provide you with the best business advice possible, we’ve partnered with The ASCII Group and their members who are going to share their thoughts on timely topics or best business practices. In this article, the following ASCII member answered our questions about where the industry stands a little bit more than a year after the pandemic hit:
- Joe Molick, President, Molick Enterprises, Inc.
- Zina Hassel, President, ZLH Enterprises Technology Consulting
- C.J. Ezell, CEO & Founder, PointClear Networks
- Sean Jennings, Sales Manager, C.I.M. Solutions Inc.
- Mike Bloomfield, President Geek, Tekie Geek
Q: How did COVID-19 change the way you hire?
Hassel: In times past we would be at various conferences or industry events and were able to get information on people/candidates looking to move. Now everything is online; virtual; via email. A bit more impersonal.
Ezell: For us, COVID has made hiring much more difficult. We’ve always hired based on the personality/people skills of the candidate with the thought that we can teach them the needed technical skills. But that has proven to be extremely difficult to do when you can’t do in-person interviews or have new hires do extensive shadowing of your existing workforce. It’s hard to spin up new employees and make sure that they are a good fit for your companies’ culture when everyone is working remotely.
