A conversation with Joshua Liberman, Net Sciences, Inc.

Joshua Liberman, NSI

In this Reader Spotlight, Net Sciences, Inc. President and ASCII Group member Joshua Liberman shares a little about himself, company, and the state of the channel.

Summarize your background/professional experience. 30 years in IT, systems integration, consulting and for past ten, MSP. SMB IT security pundit, writer, speaker and general bon vivant.

What is one interesting/humorous/entertaining fact about you? Former martial artist, rock and ice climber, and lifelong student or languages that speaks five languages and has forgotten some of five more. According to my wife, the most interesting nerd in the world.

What verticals do you serve and what services and technologies do you sell? Architecture/CAD/Design and professional services. Oddly, we are currently free of both law firms and HIPAA entities, mostly by natural selection, as we work only with those that take their security seriously.

What vendor partners do you work with? Axis, Datto, Greenlink, Intel, Lenovo, Sonicwall, and many more.

What is the best sales opportunity on your 12-to-18-month horizon? Educating our clientele and beyond in how important it is to bring comprehensive security awareness, solutions and training to their staff.

What threatens that opportunity? The very distant threat that they will get a clue in time. More seriously, the very real chance that they will continue to bury their heads in the sand.

What could accelerate it? Continued media exposure of ever more frequent and expensive security failures.

What is the most difficult aspect of leading an IT service provision company? Educating technically illiterate folks about the dangers of the machines they are operating. It feels like they are expecting to hand a bottle of Jack Daniels and the keys to the Bugatti to their 16-year-old sons and expecting “everything to be fine”.

How are you attacking that challenge? Relentless content marketing, blogging, events, podcasts, videos, and more.

In the context of running your business, what apps/tools/utilities could you not live without? Datto BCDR. Sonicwall UTM. Remote access in general. Dog and cat videos.

On the flip side of that, what would you be happy to do without? 2,407 offers to bring me seven years of business in seven days every month. Slightly fewer offers to finance my operations with virtually unlimited Saudi/Russo/North Korean funds, just a signature and high sign away. Dog and cat videos.
