Adopting A Utility Strategy: 20 Cloud Truths To Share With Your SMB Clients

The cloud computing is becoming ubiquitous to today’s businesses, but you need to help your SMB clients understand some basic cloud truths in order to make the most of its capabilities.

According to a Dell Software blog post, “SMBs need to embrace the idea of ‘utility IT,’ the ability to have as much or as little IT as you need, when you need it, much the same as electricity or water. The cloud provides amazing computing advantages and opportunities, but some assembly is required, so it’s not really the place for the SMB, which typically doesn’t have the technological or financial resources for such an undertaking.”

Dell Software also shares the Techaisle infographic 20 Truths About Cloud That Every SMB Should Know that you can share with your clients. These truths aren’t about the technology behind cloud computing, rather facts that can give your clients new perspective, for example, “Cloud is not an extension of business as usual, it is a disruptive force transforming capabilities and competitiveness.”

It also asserts that there are multiple routes to take to achieve cloud computing success — and MSPs can help provide the “essential orchestration and data integration to make cloud strategies work.”

Dell Software takes this further to assert SMBs are best served by using comprehensive solutions from a single managed services provider (MSP).

Dell Software concludes, “So the next time you read something about the cloud, recognize that for an SMB, it is only a means to an end rather than the end itself. For the SMB owner, the cloud is like the local power plant that gives you the ability to turn on the lights and operate the copier, fax, etc., necessary for you to run your business.”
